Re. Cliff Gilker, add my name to the list of frustrated residents
There’s no disputing Cliff Gilker is a jewel! Recently I brought my Swiss relatives there and they were in awe of the area except they struggled with the stream crossings since the bridges were impassable. My aunt was tired and the extra distance was a real issue. We joked that hopefully the search and rescue helicopters would be able to find us through the canopy if night fell.
When she heard the bridges had been out since 2021, that’s when things got really dramatic. Switzerland isn’t exactly known for fast projects but her jaw dropped. “You mean with all these loggers and skilled carpenters, nobody can fix this faster?!”
I commend SCRD on the thoughtful plan and process, but is a $1.2 million upgrade that will only occur in 2026 our best option? Can we be more creative here? A project where a few senior high school students get hands on experience under the supervision of skilled workers? Other ideas?!
