Water pipeline needed

Letters

Editor:

Perhaps it’s worth considering approaching some of the high-profile individuals and/or companies who enjoy living and working on the Sunshine Coast to entice their philanthropic nature by offering to name a street, library or some other entity after them for a generous contribution towards a much-needed water pipeline.

With interest rates at record lows it would also be a good time to borrow towards the project. Growth and development are inevitable for a place as desirable as the Sunshine Coast and that would contribute towards the tax base to pay off the loan more quickly.

As well, with the slowdown in the Alberta oil industry there will be a great many experienced pipeline installation companies anxiously looking for contacts, which could offer a helpful advantage in the contract bidding process. There’s the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program that could possibly also provide funding for a much-needed resource of everyday life and the expected increase in demand leading into the future.

A pipeline could offer a more permanent long-term solution as opposed to a reservoir or wells with a limited capacity and lifespan. The need never diminishes and the urgency only increases with each summer’s water restrictions as we move further along into climate change and global warming.
