Re: “Public seeks answers at Water Dialogue session,” June 7.
A riddle: When is a Dialogue not a dialogue?
I am – four days later – still trying to articulate a “takeaway” from the June 3 water discussion. Did I gain any new knowledge about our water storage problem? No. Did I gain confidence there is any progress toward resolution of the water storage problem? No. Did the unstructured table discussions serve any useful purpose? No. Did I engage in a meaningful way with decision makers? No. Wait; I know! One of the SCRD directors requested feedback on my experience and listened to my answer. Thank you, Mark Hiltz, for 10 minutes of worthwhile conversation.
Oh yes, the answer to the riddle: A Dialogue is not a dialogue when the first person who tries to engage in the conversation is told, “This is not a time for discussion.”
