During the last weeks of July, the Village Restaurant’s management, staff and their patrons did a fundraiser on my behalf, without my knowledge. They were raising funds to purchase a WeWalk cane, for me.

What is a WeWalk cane, you ask? It is a white cane that provides information to the user through a number of sensors on the cane. It provides information when I am getting close to objects that are in my walking path. Example: when a vehicle is parked with its rear tires in the driveway and the trunk is sticking out on the sidewalk, the cane will provide a vibration to inform me that there is something in the way.

I cannot say thank you enough to those who gave to this fundraiser. The WeWalk cane will give me the confidence to walk the streets of Sechelt feeling a little safer. This smart cane is just a small bridge on my path of independence. This is why the Village Restaurant is No. 1 in my eyes.
