After Labour Day of this year, TransLink took over operations from West Vancouver of the 257 Express bus to the ferry terminal and downtown. And while the trips to Horseshoe Bay are almost always on time, essential to commuters going home, the trips from the terminal leave much to be desired.
Monday, I was on the 10:50 sailing that arrived in Horseshoe Bay at 11:37. Had I not taken the stairs out of the arrival area to the ground, and run, I would not have caught the bus that leaves at 11:40.
I still needed the kindness of the driver who’d departed and made the turn, but stopped to let me on.
I thanked him effusively, paid, and turned to discover I was the only one on the bus! The rest of my fellow passengers would wait till noon for the next bus.
Over months I’ve called, written, and spoken to supervisors at TransLink, but they’re still not getting it.
Blue Bus had it down. If the driver had to wait (they would allow up to 10 minutes) for a boat that’s running a bit late, they’d wait. TransLink’s job on that route is to run a schedule to get people to the terminal on a hard schedule, but have the trips to the city be more flexible and allow it to do what that route is supposed to do. Ferry ferry passengers.
