Top three in Canada

We don't get a chance very often to toot our own horn, so you'll have to indulge us a little bit this week.

We don't get a chance very often to toot our own horn, so you'll have to indulge us a little bit this week.

On Wednesday, the Canadian Community Newspaper Association announced its annual newspaper awards finalists, and your community newspaper is up for several top honours.

Coast Reporter has been nominated in the top three for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page in the General Excellence category for newspapers in a circulation of 12,500 to 24,999. We've also won a Blue Ribbon award.

A Blue Ribbon award is given in the General Excellence category to the top third of all papers in the national competition, as determined by the panel of judges. Coast Reporter will receive a certificate and a logo that we will be printing on our masthead or front page in the near future.

We're up against stiff competition from the Cowichan News Leader from Duncan and the Stoney Creek News from Ontario. But just the same, we're all pretty excited to be among the top three newspapers in Canada in our circulation category.

We'll find out the winners on June 5, when the awards are handed out at the CCNA convention in Gatineau, Que.

These are prestigious awards and something we can all be proud of, and we're not just talking about the talented men and women who work hard every day to produce Coast Reporter.

Some of the credit for these honours also goes out to you, the readers of Coast Reporter.

After all, it's you who make us what we are. It's you we tell stories about and take pictures of. You help to shape this newspaper with your story tips and feedback, both positive and negative, on Monday mornings after the paper has hit the newsstands.

It's exciting and gratifying for all of us to be in the running for these awards. It shows that the judges recognize us for having a quality product and we can now safely say we're one of the best in Canada.

We hope you will share this honour with us as we continue to provide the Sunshine Coast with the best in news, sports and community coverage.
