This year Alison Lindsay and I volunteered to coordinate the Roberts Creek community cleanup for Earth Day celebrations.

First, I would like to thank Elaine Futterman for starting the cleanup so many years ago. As I am unable to drive, another thank you goes to Alison for helping me out with getting everything. And now, many thanks to the wonderful people who volunteer year after year to clean up garbage that others throw on the ground instead of using garbage cans.

The highway is by far the worst to go walking to clean up; however, one volunteer told me he has been cleaning up a big section of the highway for many years and is doing it again this year. Also, a group of nine-year-old Brownies came by the table to volunteer to clean up from Beach Avenue to the water. Great going, girls!

The clean up runs to May 21. Extra bags and tags are available at Roberts Creek General Store. If anyone has not yet volunteered and would like to, or if you have and can clean up more, contact me [email protected] or phone 604-741-0988.

I would now like to reach out to the people who are littering. We live in such a beautiful environment that we share with wildlife and it is up to all of us to take care of it. Please remember that whatever you throw on the ground -plastic, cigarette butts, etc. - chemicals leach out and end up in our most precious resource -our water.
