This letter is to describe a recent visit to the wastewater treatment plant in Gibsons. We were curious to see the workmanship of Maple Reinders, who built this plant in partnership with Stantec Consulting.
We entered a clean, odourless and almost noiseless plant surrounded by trees and bush. We were cordially welcomed as the first visitors from Sechelt since commissioning in 2005. The management and team were honest and forthright in answering all our questions. They faithfully represented the word professionalism.
The 6,450 cubic metre per day plant in Gibsons exceeds all the requirements for a sewage treatment plant in British Columbia, with effluent approaching the quality claimed by Organica.
We were surprised to find that it cost only $5 million. Contrast to this - $25 million for the new 4,000 cubic metre per day plant in Sechelt.
We the taxpayers deserve better.
