Support climate strike

Letters

Editor:

This week people across the world are taking action in support of reducing climate change, culminating in a Global Climate Strike on Friday, Sept. 27.

I would love to see Sunshine Coast businesses support the Global Climate Strike.

This could be a brilliant PR strategy for any business, highlighting the business as forward-thinking and concerned about the well-being of its customers, community, and the planet.

Ideally, businesses would be closed for the entire day. However, recognizing that it’s not feasible for all businesses to forgo an entire day of operation, here are some alternative actions that businesses could take to show support for the Global Climate Strike on Sept. 27:

• Shut down for an hour (Earth Strike Hour – put a sign on the door).

• Send one rep to Persephone’s Climate Strike (11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) action.

• Put up signs or banners of support in your window.

• Wear something representing or supporting the strike.

• Have a moment of silence.

• Shut down the website for the day.

• Make an announcement over speakers.

• Give a percentage of sales that day to Sustainabiliteens or another environmental group of your choosing

I encourage business owners/operators to talk with colleagues and employees and take the step into the future for the sake of future generations, and have their business take part in the Global Climate Strike on Friday, Sept. 27.
