I’m a little late getting in on the discussion about priority boarding because I was out of town but I’d like to say the windshield sticker idea for Sunshine Coast residents is a no brainer. It’s an inexpensive and simple way to administer a solution that works. When I was still living in the southwest neighbourhood of Vancouver, the city was to undertake a major infrastructure project that would lead to massive traffic congestion. The city’s solution was to simply mail a windshield decal to all the residents affected in the project area and restrict access to non-residents for the duration of the project. Auxiliary constables were designated to the access points to control the traffic going into the area. It worked brilliantly. In the case of the ferries, we wouldn’t need the constabulary, hopefully, just the booth personnel. Also, the suggestion of a $5 donation to offset costs and the remainder going to a charity work be readily accepted by most everyone.
