It was surprising to see Silas White positioning himself as saviour of school children (Coast Reporter, Aug. 29, “Trustee seeks help to fix dangerous intersection”). Where was that concern when, as chair of the school board, he cavalierly dismissed the pleading of a group of parents who wanted him to ensure the new Gibsons Elementary School made use of safe, hardwired networks for Internet connection instead of relying solely on wiFi?

Had he done his due diligence as the parents had, he would have seen that the evidence is in. Schools all over Europe and in some other parts of Canada are removing wiFi because of the dangers it poses, especially to young minds in the formative stages. Instead White stood behind other trustees who cited Health CanadaHs wildly inadequate Safety Code 6, which even our federal government, not known for its respect for science, has recognized is flawed. It is a decision under his watch that may come to haunt him.
