Any reduction in speed limits in Gibsons is just plain stupid (Coast Reporter, March 29).
This community can't profess to be "green" and then reduce a speed limit by 20 per cent. This makes travelling anywhere a 20 per cent longer trip, burning approximately 20 per cent more fuel to get the same distance.
The same article mentioned pedestrian fatalities are reduced by lowering speed limits. If we taught pedestrians of all ages to keep their heads up and to look out for their own safety, then the speed of the vehicle is almost irrelevant.
