Social engineering, SCRD style

So, all “SCRD water customers of the Sunshine Coast,” how does it feel to be social-engineered? It seems the SCRD has a “Drought Management Plan” to “manage demand” for drinking water. It further seems that the SCRD has a “goal to reduce water consumption per person by 33 per cent by 2020.” It will do this via water meter fees (affecting families and garden-lovers disproportionately), fines, and public shaming attempts. Sounds like social engineering by unelected bureaucrats. Or are the elected SCRD directors behind this?

It seems to me that as water is definitely a renewable resource that comes to the Sunshine Coast in great quantities every year, the only requirement is for adequate water storage for draw-downs during dry summer months. Why not spend all the money, time and effort to address that?
