Re: “Grizzly killed in Egmont is first confirmed in area,” Aug. 26.
A young grizzly bear has been shot and killed in Egmont. Just like that! Not even a fine? A horrible act.
We live here in the wilderness or right next to it. Cougars, bears, wolves, coyotes have been living here before the humans arrived. And they are looking for food to survive and to feed their families.
Humans move into their territory, cut the trees, take away little by little their habitat. Why not take on some responsibility when you want to live here, show some compassion and share the territory so all can live in peace?
Keeping your garbage inside till garbage pickup day is not too much to ask for.
Keeping your pets inside assures they are not easy prey and attraction for hungry wildlife.
If a person decides to take on farm animals like cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, some homework is needed and some money has to be spent to keep those animals secure. A good start is a proper electric fence and a protective barn to keep them in at night.
The wildlife should not have to pay by being killed, because humans are not keeping their animals safe.
