Editor:
I received a colourful little pamphlet in the mail to tell me that Stage 3 will remain in effect due to “prolonged dry weather.” I don’t know if it’s just our area of Halfmoon Bay, but I have found the weather to be quite wet this year.
I get the impression that the SCRD has no clue as to water levels at Chapman Lake. Instead of sending out costly brochures giving information that is available every week in the local papers, why not install a video camera – similar to those installed to watch eagle nests – so that everyone can monitor the levels via the Internet and act accordingly. Of course, this would remove some power from the SCRD to frighten us.
I see at the bottom of the brochure it says “Report violators.” Now this seems like a great way to foster community spirit! Why not set neighbour against neighbour – it is a basic tenet for all totalitarian regimes! What next? The SCRD urging children to snitch on their parents?
