Room for a highway

Letters

Editor:

Your July 19 issue had items on Stan Dixon and a proposed new highway from Langdale to Sechelt.

A number of years ago, we met and talked to retired chief Dixon a couple of times. He gave us copies of his and his wife Lori’s Kahtou News. He also told us that when negotiations were going on for the right-of-way for the BC Hydro power lines, the First Nations parties agreed to make the right-of-way broad enough so a highway could be built along it connecting Langdale and Sechelt. In addition, members of the First Nations would be employed in the highway construction.

Dixon said it was his understanding that construction of that highway would commence in the not too distant future. We support Mayor Siegers’ position on the matter.
