Arresting Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou at YVR in December has brought lots of international twists and turns over the last five weeks. The retrial of Canadian Robert Schellenberg and applying the death sentence early this week is worrisome and Justin Trudeau has expressed “extreme concern.” Trudeau, Canadians and other countries should be concerned. I am!
But why is the Canadian government so keen on pursuing a free trade agreement and encouraging foreign investment from China? Should we continue developing 5G technology with Huawei when there are other providers?
It’s time to take a hard look at the actions of China and focus our foreign trade and investment with more civilized trading partners.
