Editor:
I have written to the minister of highways and infrastructure as well as to the MLA for the Sunshine Coast, the SCRD and Capilano Highways Services to advise them that Redrooffs Road is a hazardous road and that the hazards need to be addressed.
On Jan. 11 my husband was walking our dog on leash on the pedestrian walkway on the south side of Redrooffs Road. A motorist swerved off the road to avoid an oncoming truck and hit our dog.
The main hazard on Redrooffs is motorists speeding on the straight stretch between Francis Road and Sargeant Bay. There have been previous complaints about speeding when animals have been injured and killed along the road.
Motorists, if you are driving on Redrooffs please know that car laneways and pedestrian walkways are narrow along this stretch. Please slow down. There have been many times when I have had to move off into a driveway or jump out of the way in order to avoid being hit by a car or its mirror. It is even more dangerous when there are cars coming from both directions and meet where there are pedestrians in the walkway.
I am requesting that the ministry look into traffic calming on Redrooffs with the possibility of dividing the road so it is no longer a through road. In our case, thankfully, our dog was not badly hurt. We can’t wait for another accident or until a human is injured or killed before something is done.
