Editor:
In the Sept. 5 issue of Coast Reporter, two people reporting to be members of the Gibsons Alliance for Business and Community wrote to address Peggy Wright’s letter asking for the group to identify themselves. The society’s website does not indicate who its directors or officers are (which most reputable societies do).
One letter writer provided a vague list of GABC member occupations (including, alarmingly, “editors” — but not saying if they were editors of our local newspapers or freelance editors, book editors or editors in a former life.)
It’s easy to provide a vague list of occupations enjoyed by anonymous members, but this is not what Ms. Wright asked for. She asked to know who the directors were. She asked to know when the group’s annual general meeting was held, or would be held. When was it established? Also, can they prove they are a bona fide society in good standing under the terms of the Society Act, having filed an annual return each year?
Are any of the members Town of Gibsons council members? Are any of the members candidates for elected office? Voters might find this information illuminating.
