Put safety first

Letters

Editor:

Bravo to your correspondent who questions the safety aspect of the rainbow crosswalks recently installed in both Gibsons and Sechelt (“Safety trumps the message of inclusion,” Letters, July 26).

A young relative was knocked down by a car at the age of seven, his whole life ruined. Surely this should enforce the importance of safety? One wonders whether the colour blind or the visually impaired, all members of our community, were consulted before making the changes to a crossing with reduced visibility.

Now councils have made their point – please restore the crossings to the standard markings and put safety first for everyone in our communities.
