As I entered the Gibsons and Area Community Centre last week, I was confronted by a large (almost three-metre tall) pile of garbage bags "decorated" as a Christmas tree.

The label on it stated, "to the landfill from the people of the Sunshine Coast."

The receptionist said that a Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) van had delivered it.

I wish to express my utter disgust with the SCRD staff who authorized this incredibly tasteless spectacle. I suppose that it is meant as a political statement. If so, it is an insult to every responsible citizen of the Sunshine Coast. Obviously the staff at Field Road have far too much time on their hands. Perhaps if there were less staff there wouldn't be time for such nonsense. I call upon the directors to have this disgrace removed and have a proper tree installed without delay.
