Editor:
A few fun facts for whoever decided to place the letter on our car ending with “YANKEY GO HOME” on Sunday, July 12 at Independent parking lot in Sechelt:
My fiancé and I are both young professionals, born and raised in Canada. We are Canadians. We have a car with U.S. plates because one of us is employed by an international company and was based in the U.S. prior to COVID.
The Canada-U.S. border has been closed since March and will continue to be closed until at least the end of August, so if we were American (which again, we are not) we would not be able to get into Canada.
You used “can not” incorrectly (it should have read “cannot”) and spelled “Yankey” incorrectly (it is “Yankee”). If you want to try to insult us, please check your spelling first.
While we understand your concern given COVID and the rate of infection in the U.S., let’s remember it’s important not to make assumptions and to trust the border system.
