Re: the letter from Citizens for Safe Technology Society asking for support of a class action lawsuit against B. C. Hydro (Coast Reporter, Aug. 16).
Let me get this issue straight: BC Hydro sells you a product generated by the assets of the people of British Columbia and they wish to meter that product. They have a more efficient way of metering that product belonging to the citizens of the province and you don't like that. So now your group is going to sue the people of the province and run up an expensive lawsuit so our rates can go up to cover the cost of defending it. BC Hydro is, however, going to offer you an alternative at a cost relevant to their cost of accommodating your concerns, but what is equitable for the rest of us is not suitable for you.
Is this group planning on suing gas stations who also meter the products they sell? Maybe BC Hydro should just stop selling electricity to anyone who does not want a smart meter. It is not a right, but a privilege that citizens of B.C. have the electricity available for our use paid for by previous generations.
Pay your share, find an alternative, butdon't ask the rest of us to bear the cost of your actions.
