I recently went for a mountain bike ride off the B&K logging road. When I parked at “the mattresses” to start my ride, I noticed a group of people sitting around a campfire at the logging protest camp that is set up there.
When I returned from my ride a short time later, everyone from the camp had gone, but the fire was still burning, leaving me to put it out.
I’m not against the right to protest, as that is what makes Canada such a great place to live. But I was quite upset that the people at this camp had such a lack of respect for the environment that they would leave a fire burning unattended – especially in light of events from last year, so fresh in our minds.
Protest the logging if you want, but please take care not to burn the forest down in the process.
