As a newcomer to the Coast, I looked forward to joining the Gibsons Seniors' Society and to taking part in its activities.

It came as a shock, however, to discover that activities in the hall are minimal and any attempt to put on entertainment events, such as ballroom dancing to a live band or a St. Patrick's Night are banned outright by the present executive committee, who for reasons which they prefer not share, actively discourage such normally sought after pleasures.

Purely because of this negative attitude, a new non-profit group was formed whose intention is nothing more sinister than to provide the type of entertainment which is lacking at Harmony Hall, but it was immediately banned from using the facility, a strange state of affairs when the hall provides a perfect venue.

The final unwelcome surprise came upon observing the committee's treatment of a very long-time society member, who has held executive positions including the presidency. The treatment meted out to this person borders on character assassination. At present it is more like Disharmony Hall, and is not conducive to the fellowship that should be a major component of any community. I will not be renewing my membership in the Gibsons Seniors' Society.
