Editor:
Four weeks ago, after a series of unconscious moments at home, I wrote a letter to the editor praising the emergency services here on the Sunshine Coast along with the emergency room doctors and nurses at Sechelt Hospital (“Tremendous care,” Aug. 31). Besides the amazing care I received, the incident accelerated heart bypass surgery by a number of weeks. Now it’s time to express my gratitude to my family doctor (Mentz), internist (Wadge), cardiologist (Abel), the surgical team who performed a quintuple bypass at St. Paul’s, along with all of those involved in my recovery. Your expertise and care provided a successful outcome. I am very fortunate that the diagnosis took place before I suffered any damage to my heart via a heart attack. As I watch the goings on with the medical system to the south of us, more and more I realize how fortunate we are. Yes, there are deficiencies, but overall our system works. Now, if we can just get a handle on hospital food, we’ll have things aced.
