Re: “Free fireworks offer sparks debate at Gibsons council,” May 24.
Has Bill Beamish lost his mind? HSPP offers to fund the fireworks and he rebuffs them. How rude. Sea Cavalcade is an iconic summer event in Gibsons. It draws thousands to our town. The fireworks are an intimate part of Sea Cavalcade. Every kid who’s grown up in Gibsons has a Sea Cavalcade story. The George, Eagleview and Gospel Rock are all developments which are richly enhancing our town’s revenues – so we’ve been told – why do we not have money for Sea Cavalcade? Especially now with HSPP stepping up to pay for the fireworks. Hire a coordinator and stop this foolishness. Beamish says 50 years is a good run. Let’s hope he doesn’t turn his attention to Christmas or he’ll be cancelling that, it’s been around for over 2,000 years. And how ridiculous is his Cape Town challenge. Does he think all these people moving into these tax-grab developments are going to be using outhouses and wash basins?
