In the next two months, you may see a table set up in a mall by a group, Alliance for Democracy, supporting electoral reform that has proportional representation (PR) as its goal. In the last election the Green Party, the NDP, and the Liberals all promised that 2015 would be the last election using the first-past-the-post voting system. Almost 70 per cent of the population supported this. Alliance for Democracy supports a PR voting system because research from those countries that already use PR shows that when every vote counts, social, environmental, and economic policies reflect the wishes of the people, there is greater political stability, less adversarial, more co-operative behaviour between parties, as well as a more engaged citizenry. Come and talk to us about electoral reform.
