The following letter was sent to MP John Weston and copied to Coast Reporter.
Recently I went into Sechelt’s Canada Post office to purchase a stamp and mail a card. I immediately noticed the signs that were taped to the red letter boxes, one for ‘off the Coast’ had been removed. So I mentioned it to the always helpful Canada Post employee on duty.
Her explanation was simple and clear — all mail from here now goes to Metro Vancouver to be sorted.
In other words if I am sending an envelope from Halfmoon Bay to Gibsons, Egmont or anywhere on the Coast, it now first travels to Metro Vancouver, gets sorted there and then is sent back to the Coast for delivery.
How ridiculous!
On March 4, 2014 you (Mr. Weston) wrote, “I understand the corporation has to consider all options to avoid becoming a drain on taxpayers. Canada Post’s plan will help to ensure its financial sustainability...”
Mr. Weston, as our MP, it’s your responsibility to get a grip on reality. This decision is of course a drain on us taxpayers, it is a complete waste of fossil fuels, and it is far from efficient.
In addition Mr. Weston while we are working hard to hold onto existing living wage jobs and to create new employment opportunities on the Coast, your government is making decisions that are inefficient and worst of all will inevitably contribute to destroying our healthy community.
Is that what you were elected to do?
Dianne Goldberg, Halfmoon Bay
