Over the last few years, I've noticed a good deal of people who are ignorant about horses on the road.

I'd like to thank the people who take the time to pass us riders slowly and wide. In my short time trail riding on the Coast with a horse or group of horseback riders, there have always been drivers and other road users who like to whizz past a horse, thinking it nothing more then a machine.

Horses are not machines. Loud noises, sudden movements, people rudely honking their horn at the pretty pony and dogs in the back seat easily frighten horses. I've nearly been killed a few times riding along when some ignorant person comes flying by on a motorbike, or opens the window for the dog to look at my horse. A broken leg is a broken neck for a horse, and if a horse spooks and jumps in front of a car, it puts more people in danger.

So please, the next time you see a horse on the road, pass slowly and wide. Help keep our roads safe.
