My husband and I attended A Night at the Longhouse put on by the shíshálh nation on Tuesday evening. It’s not easy these days to find authenticity: we’re surrounded by a globalized mishmash in music, art, food – all forms of cultural expression. Tuesday’s event was refreshingly authentic, local, and soulful. I learned about the culture and experience of the shíshálh in a caring, gentle way that was deeply moving. And the food! The shíshálh provided salmon and other treats – and they were great – beautifully complemented by a variety of lovingly prepared dishes brought by the community. I can’t wait for next year!
