I am a long-time resident of the Sunshine Coast and have bicycled the back country long before there were trails. I have also ridden the highway and agree that it is very dangerous in places.
When I was a kid back east, everyone had to license their bikes. The licence was filed along with the bike’s registration number and helped with recovery if the bike was stolen.
Now, I know I’m going to catch flak from cyclists for these next comments, but I suggest licensing (permits?) of all bikes with the proceeds going towards lane improvement.
The trails in the woods are mainly built by volunteers, and I think highway riders should quit whining and chip in to pay for something that is basically for a minority interest group.
