Re: Public Works and Parks Operations Building Project (advertised Jan. 15).

I have to say, are you guys crazy? In these times you want to borrow $3 million to build a shed. Seriously? How can you ask taxpayers for more money?

Let’s see some financial restraints.

You state: “18 Parks and Public Works staff have worked out of damp, cold portables and tents since 2012.”

Hmm. How about providing heat? Kids have been in portables at the schools for years. And yes, they have to turn the heat on in the a.m.

Can you not buy a steel building for $400,000 or less and provide power and washrooms in a safe, warm place?

Estimated project cost of $3.8 million. Seriously?

Come budget time think about people with no jobs, struggling to feed their families. The people who have lost their jobs during these times that cannot pay their mortages and taxes.

Council needs to rethink and do the walk for the taxpayers of Sechelt. Stop empire building.

We should have a Sunshine Coast government and the Sechelt Indian Band for the Sunshine Coast. Not four governments – Gibsons, Sunshine Coast Regional District, Sechelt, and Sechelt Indian Band – with all the overhead for 35,000 people. This is getting way too expensive.

Do you think taxpayers can afford more tax increase?

I encourage anyone who agrees with the above to let the District of Sechelt know.
