No apparent legacy

Letters

Editor:

In response to Mayor Bruce Milne’s letter to the editor in the Aug. 10 Coast Reporter (“Mayor defends record”) I thank him for correcting the one error contained in my July 27 letter, “Contrast in mayors.” I misspelled Mayor Basse’s first name.

The list of accomplishments on his watch is correctly attributed to other people. What will his own legacy to Sechelt be? After three terms as mayor totalling 10 years on the job, it is not apparent. Mayors Koch, Basse, Reid and Henderson certainly left theirs, in less time.

He mentions Sechelt’s “collective credibility.” With whom? Supporting candidates who take advantage of voter dissatisfaction with incumbents who take bold initiatives that provide long-term benefit to the community is not the way for Sechelt to achieve progress, as history has shown. His final sentence is “Job done.” In that case, time to move on with, of course, our thanks.
