First responders amazing

Letters

Editor:

It could have been you but it was me. Two RCMP officers rolled up my driveway late afternoon on Tuesday with police lights flashing. “You have to evacuate right now, there’s a forest fire bordering your property!” I was terrified, mostly for my pets and several other people’s cats in my care while they were away. I calmed myself down and did what I needed to do – get the pets to safety. Fortunately, I had a pre-arrangement of a safe place to go in the event of needing to evacuate. And so that’s what I did.

I must say how impressed I was for the quick and thorough response of the RCMP, firefighters, ambulances, BC Forest Service, and the two helicopter pilots with water buckets. It resembled a war zone. Everyone was so professional and caring, I can’t imagine a better team to have dealt with this situation. I don’t bake but I want to make all of them baskets of muffins!

But for now I just want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for dealing with this crisis so quickly and sparing my beautiful acreage and home (including all my neighbours) from any harm. You are all my heroes!

(I was the woman blowing all of you kisses out my driver’s window while I was evacuating.)
