Letters: Why consider housing when we need water?

Editor: I just do not understand why Sechelt is considering adding an 89-unit housing project at the corner of Wharf Avenue and East Porpoise Bay Road that would house 160 to 200 people when we do not have enough water for those living here already.

I just do not understand why Sechelt is considering adding an 89-unit housing project at the corner of Wharf Avenue and East Porpoise Bay Road that would house 160 to 200 people when we do not have enough water for those living here already. We have been on Stage 1 water restrictions since the beginning of May. My husband and I have been here in Sechelt for 25 years and we were having problems then, and things have only worsened.

Are they going to put a desalination unit in the Inlet? Are they going to improve the water problems prior to even building these units? I don’t think so. I really don’t understand why we allow this to be done before we solve the water situation still facing us.
