Letters: What about desalination for the Sunshine Coast?

'We have an ocean, why don’t we build a desalination plant? If it’s good enough for Australia, China, Chile, Algeria, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Malta, Maldives, Morocco, Mexico, and a host of other nations, why not here? Maybe there are federal grants?'

Editor:

If the SCRD, Sechelt, Gibsons and the SIB want to continue developing residential real estate on the Coast, and offer opportunities for industry, they should first ask themselves the question: How are we going to provide water for those people? The SCRD is hopeless at managing water (not to impugn the Herculean efforts of staff) but an observation on the historic lack of vision by SCRD board members.

We have an ocean, why don’t we build a desalination plant? If it’s good enough for Australia, China, Chile, Algeria, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Malta, Maldives, Morocco, Mexico, and a host of other nations, why not here? Maybe there are federal grants?
