Letters: The return of two lost wallets and faith in humanity

'Both wallets contained all our credit cards, DLs and identification. It was a quiet but quick drive back to Halfmoon Bay, both in deep thought of how we would manage. Our eyes began searching every foot of the four-kilometre gravel road when Simone’s phone rang.'

Faith in Humanity. Two weeks after retiring we left Calgary to do some epic mountain biking on the Sunshine Coast and on the Island. On our fourth amazing ride up Middle Point Road, near Halfmoon Bay, I placed both our wallets on the car roof above the passenger seat. I called to Simone at the back of the car to take the wallets off when she boarded the car.

Simone was at the back of the car loading bikes and didn’t hear the request. Once bikes were loaded, and both feeling exuberant after the ride, we excitedly set off for the ferry at Earls Cove. At the ferry, it was by the expression on Simone’s face when I asked if she had the wallets that I knew we were in trouble. Homeless in fact.

Both wallets contained all our credit cards, DLs and identification. It was a quiet but quick drive back to Halfmoon Bay, both in deep thought of how we would manage. Our eyes began searching every foot of the four-kilometre gravel road when Simone’s phone rang. She had left her son’s business card in her wallet. Trevor, the amazing citizen from the Sunshine Coast, had found Simone’s wallet on the highway and made the call. Within minutes, we met Trevor and were reunited with Simone’s wallet.

We continued to search for mine up and down the road, without success. But Trevor improved our situation, so we headed back to Earls Cove. Immediately my phone rang. It was my credit card company telling me that equally amazing Sunshine Coast resident Carri had found my wallet. It too was quickly returned. Simone and Tim are so grateful to both Carri and Trevor for their kindness, and to all the wonderful people we met on the Sunshine Coast.
