Letters: Second World War dog tag retrieved from recycling

Leon and Caitlin at Salish Soils unbundled packed-up cans and containers to find a Second World War dog tag mistakenly thrown in the recycling.
Dog tag

Editor:

I’d like to express gratitude to Leon and Caitlin at Salish Soils, who unbundled packed-up cans and containers from the day before to try and find an irreplaceable item I had accidentally put in the recycling: the Second World War dog tag belonging to the grandfather of our house’s previous owner. Leon heard my story and agreed to try to find this “very precious thing”, and after about 10 minutes of looking through bottles and cans Caitlin’s sharp eyes spotted it. I can’t thank them enough for making an exception for me and helping to find the dogtag–the owner says that it’s an “escape artist” and had been previously lost before we bought the house and found it hidden away. It will be returned to its rightful owner and kept safe for his family. Many, many thanks!
