Letters: Slow down

Editor:

On July 16, a fawn was hit by a van outside our home in Halfmoon Bay. Screaming, it managed to drag itself down to our neighbour’s driveway. Its legs were badly injured.

Tammy Trefry, from Coastal Wildlife Rescue was called. She said I needed to call RAPP, which I did.

There was never any hope for this fawn. I stayed with it, until the CO arrived, four hours later, and shot it.

During that time, Tammy, who was attending a similar incident, supported me via text, noting the fawn would be becoming hungry and dehydrated. It couldn’t have water yet as it was still nursing. This creature suffered.

Please remember that all life is precious and this could easily have been a child or a pet. Slow down, regardless of the speed limit!
