Letters: Lower Road speeds a disaster waiting to happen

Appreciate Yvonne Mounsey and Carol Ann Glover’s letters, warning the community of Roberts Creek of the hazards of simply walking down the side of the road on Lower Road.

At the very least, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure ought to supply some signs to remind all the new city drivers who rush down Lower Road at dangerous speeds, only to have to slow down for a stop sign at either end. Recently, I waited behind one of these drivers who had endangered a number of us by passing, speeding, and crossing the centre line with oncoming traffic visible from around a corner.  We all ended up in a queue at the stop sign.

You can hear them speeding. The other evening, a car literally screamed around the corner to our street, revving and braking all the way up our road with a sound so loud, nothing else existed during its shriek. Then, silence.

And after a short visit to an address up the street, it screamed back down and onto Lower, its sound only fading somewhat.

Without intervention to slow traffic, Lower Road is a serious problem and a disaster waiting to happen.
