Editor:

I am grateful to Sarah Tesla for her thoughtful and compassionate column on July 25, which highlighted the often-overlooked topic of grief and the vital role mental health support plays in healing. Her words helped shine a light on the emotional complexities that come with loss, and more importantly, the power of community in navigating those dark moments.

At Coast Hospice, we see every day how grief touches people from all walks of life. Whether it’s the death of a loved one, or the anticipation of loss combined with the daily demands of caregiving, grief can feel overwhelming and isolating. And grief has its own timeline. That’s why Sarah’s column was so timely and so important — it reminded readers that support is available, and that no one has to walk through grief alone.

Since 1987, Coast Hospice has been there for people who are grieving. We offer a wide range of community grief support services and programs, including counseling, group sessions, and workshops. With the help of 100+ trained volunteers, this free support is available to anyone in need wherever they live on the Coast—not just those with loved ones in hospice care. Our goal is to provide a compassionate space where individuals and families can process their grief in a way that feels safe, supported, and understood.

If you or someone you know is struggling with loss, we encourage you to reach out at [email protected] or 604-740-0475. We are here.
