Letters: Gibsons Marina would be glad to support cleanup

'In the past, we at Gibsons Marina have worked with community groups on a number of environmental projects. We have partnered with Chapman Creek Hatchery’s summer programs, and were proud that we were the first (and so far only) marina in B.C. to qualify for the International Blue Flag designation, recognizing our commitment to environmental stewardship.'

Editor:

As the owner of Gibsons Marina, I read with dismay Kimiko Taguchi’s opinion piece in the Coast Reporter (“Lack of sorting space, cost, see Gibsons Landing Marina Cleanup postponed”).  The proposed cleanup of the ocean floor within the Gibsons Harbour is a project we would have been proud to support, if only the Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans had contacted us.

Our only expectations would be that the group have appropriate insurance (which we understand the Town also requested when they were first approached last month) and to conduct the cleanup in late fall to early spring, when the harbour area is less busy. This would be for the group’s own safety.

In the past, we at Gibsons Marina have worked with community groups on a number of environmental projects. We have partnered with Chapman Creek Hatchery’s summer programs, and were proud that we were the first (and so far only) marina in B.C. to qualify for the International Blue Flag designation, recognizing our commitment to environmental stewardship.

We hope that the group will reach out to us, so that we can discuss how best Gibsons Marina can support their important work.

Sincerely,
