Opinion: Lack of sorting space, cost, see Gibsons Landing Marina Cleanup postponed

It is with deep regret that we have to announce the postponement of our planned Gibsons Landing Marina Cleanup, originally scheduled for June 11.

Unfortunately, we could not secure a location in Gibsons to sort the garbage after it came out of the marina. The cost of removing the garbage was another obstacle.

In several communities, local artists and arts councils have joined cleanup efforts by turning some of the waste pieces removed from waters into art. "Diving In": The Art of Cleaning Lakes and Oceans,” is an environmental art campaign that has received acclaim in the Sea to Sky area, West Vancouver and North Vancouver. Bringing the campaign to the Sunshine Coast would be a natural extension, following the waters of the Salish Sea. However, that won’t happen this year.

Thank you for supporting our efforts. We hope for a better result next time.
