The Chapman Water System was on Stage 3 water restrictions for what, nine days? If it didn’t make enough of a difference then maybe it’s not outside use that’s the biggest problem? Or why the heck were we not on Stage 3 for the last month or two to avoid Stage 4?
I presumed that after last year when we had about two weeks between Stage 3 and 4 someone might have figured that out? To go from being allowed to water seven hours a week - then none. Zero? What?
Am I the only person who thinks that’s plain dumb? Heat and drought are now the norm. Not a surprise anomaly! Our wet and cool spring this year was an anomaly.
And in the face of a veritable gold rush of development/population boom on the Coast, it’s suggested that we should aim to use a similar amount of water (SCRD Newsletter Coast Current Sept. 3) as last year? That defies logic. There’s a chronic water shortage so we should add hundreds (thousands?) of users. Seriously.
The property for sale at the top of Medusa Street alone is zoned for over 300 (multi-family) residences.
Let’s expect that next year could likely be even hotter, with even less rainfall, and responsibly plan for that scenario. Do we really need to collectively ignore reality and suffer extreme scenarios every year?
