Letter: Why did Prince Rupert get water funding and not us?

Editor:

I was shocked to see in the news that the City of Prince Rupert had received $65 million from the provincial government to improve their water supply. What is our MLA doing?

I believe the Coast Reporter should run a front-page article regarding this announcement and ask all residents of the Sunshine Coast to write to their elected officials asking that the Sunshine Coast also get funding for our water supply. It has been over 40 years that our MLAs and the SCRD have done nothing regarding a permanent and reliable water supply for the Sunshine Coast while we welcome more people and new development. We are very likely to have another drought this year and in the years to come if something permanent is not done. Water meters and wells are not a permanent solution to our water shortage. In the meantime, the SCRD must focus on immediate short term solutions that will prevent another year of water rationing this year.

Thank you,
