Letter: We might not like Highway 101, but that doesn't mean we should risk others' lives

Dear Drivers, Our Highway 101 is certainly in bad shape and way over capacity but that does not excuse us from following the rules of the road and respecting other people’s lives!

We arrived back on the Coast Tuesday evening on the 5:30 ferry and as usual, the going was a little slow heading for Sechelt. A semi flatbed trailer was a few vehicles ahead of us but he was not slowing anyone down to a crawl.

It seems that one vehicle had other ideas and roared around me just as I was coming even with the construction pylons. Then a little farther on he passed another car on a blind corner. He could have caused a terrible accident and then the highway would have been hooped for hours. My regret is he had a mountain bike mounted on the back of his vehicle so his plate was not visible. He was nowhere in sight when I reached Sechelt so I can only imagine how many more rules of the road he ignored.

Please wake up people and drive to the conditions of the road. None of us are happy with our highway but we have to live with it…hopefully not to die on it because of some careless person!
