Letter: Petition launched against Connor Park hall location

'The SCRD has thrown out all the effort and fundraising that has happened in the last 10 years for a hall replacement at Coopers Green that has been the social hub for the last 110 years. Sixty-four per cent of respondents to the SCRD survey wanted a hall at Coopers Green.'

There is no environmental impact study for development or master park plan done for Connor Park. The overall 10-year master park plan for all of the SCRD ends January 2024. There has been no business plan done for a hall at Connor Park. The community has not been consulted or been able to give input in the development of Connor Park.

There is a large concentration of Western White Pines where they want to build the hall and this concentration is found nowhere else in Halfmoon Bay.

The SCRD has thrown out all the effort and fundraising that has happened in the last 10 years for a hall replacement at Coopers Green that has been the social hub for the last 110 years. Sixty-four per cent of respondents to the SCRD survey wanted a hall at Coopers Green.

Connor Park is not on a bus route and there is already concerns with traffic going to the community school and park with lack of pedestrian space at the park entrance.

The community school has/can serve the hall needs of the Welcome Woods area and when needed for larger events for the greater Halfmoon Bay area.

If you disagree with the SCRD pushing a hall at Connor Park and wasting more tax dollars and community energy, please sign the petition at change.org/save-connor-park.
