Letter: No more band-aids for our water problem

Editor:

I think the residents of Sechelt have to give John Henderson at least some credit for trying to get a more immediate water supply for the Sunshine Coast. The SCRD, other politicians and staff seem very content to do next to nothing to provide a permanent water supply for the Sunshine Coast. This has been well demonstrated by the SCRD for the past 40 years.

Now the provincial government has announced a one billion dollar infrastructure fund for new required infrastructure in B.C. Why can’t the SCRD and the shíshálh Nation put pressure on the B.C. government to give us a grant to assist in funding a permanent water solution for the Sunshine Coast by getting water from Clowhom or Sakinaw or building a large permanent reservoir? Otherwise we will continue with the current band-aid approach that has been supported by our past politicians and staff. A realistic permanent solution is going to take time and cost money, we need to do it now.
