Way to go, Cathie Roy, for your editorial Oct. 5 ("Thinking outside the boat"). I have muttered for years that the Coast needs a bridge, not a highway. And, of course, tolls would be involved, but tolls couldn't be any more expensive than what we are already dinged on the ferry system. I think it's just a matter of time until BC Ferries charges both ways for the trip from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay.
A bridge to Vancouver Island should also be considered. I went to Victoria this past weekend, and shelled out over $200! This is highway (or seaway) robbery. Don't tell me it isn't feasible - I cite some examples: Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, China - 26.4 mi/41 km; Manchac Bridge, Louisiana - 22.8 mi/35 km; Hanghzou Bay Bridge, China - 22.4 mi/35 km; and our own Confederation Bridge, Prince Edward Island - 8 miles/13 km. And these are bridges that span water, not over land!
Let's get a committee going!
